About: Summerville, South Carolina

A suburb of Charleston, Summerville was settled after the Revolutionary War and was named Pineland Village in 1785. Summerville became a town in 1847 and was named a top spot for the recovery of lung and throat disorders in 1899 by the Congress of Physicians, due in part to the presence of so many trees that released turpentine derivatives into that area. The area today plays host to the Flowertown Festival. Held each spring it is the largest arts and crafts festival in South Carolina.

    The Charleston Kennel Club, South Carolina's oldest, holds its annual dog show at The Exchange Park Fairgrounds Saturday and Sunday, January 24 and 25, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The show is drawing over nine hundred registered dogs that will be competing in different classes over the two day event. The main event for the Charleston Kennel Club show is conformation, with judges trying to determine which dog best conforms to the standards of that particular breed.
