    The owner of a waste disposal site at California's biggest sand dunes admitted he illegally dumped "potentially millions of gallons of untreated human waste and sewage" at Glamis Dunes, federal prosecutors said Wednesday. Michael J. Mamelli Sr., 63, of Newport Beach, and his company Glamis Dunes Storage, pleaded guilty to unlawful injection of pollutants, a felony punishable by up to 3 years in prison and fines of up to $750,000, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

    Andrew John Cardiel Jr., 42, of Banning, and Heather Magun Gurule, 30, of Yucaipa were taken into custody Friday following a traffic stop, Newport Beach police spokeswoman Jennifer Manzella said. Around 8:50 p.m. Friday, a Newport Beach police officer spotted a green Dodge Caravan with an expired registration and equipment violation leaving a gas station near Bristol Street and Irvine Avenue, Manzella said.
