    The Mailbag served up a nice, slow softball this week, with “faithful reader” Dan of Seal Beach, who called with this: “As you head south on Pacific Coast Highway, there's a notorious old-time watering hole called King Neptune's and around the front and side are some slabs of concrete with the names of winners of Miss Universe and Miss USA etched in and the years they won -- mostly in the 1950s. I don't know where the slabs came from or how they got to King Neptune's.

    A Santa Ana wind advisory that was in effect Saturday and Sunday in much of Los Angeles and Ventura counties excluding coastal areas was scheduled to be lifted Sunday afternoon, said Stuart Seto, an Oxnard-based weather specialist with the National Weather Service. The advisory, which was initially expected to last through Monday, went into effect on Saturday due to a forecast of frequent gusts of at least 35 miles per hour in the valleys and gusts of 45 miles an hour in the mountain zones.
