    The case against a man accused of writing threatening letters to law enforcement and court officials is moving forward in Erie County Court after a judge ruled this morning that the defendant is competent to stand trial. Adam W. Mallin's mental state was evaluated after his lawyer, Garrett Taylor, told President Judge Ernest J. DiSantis Jr. that Mallin, 25, had made statements that caused Taylor to believe Mallin was "not capable of rational thought."
