  • Defense wants statement tossed in Kahkwa shooting

    The defense has filed a motion seeking to suppress evidence in the case of a man accused of fatally shooting his friend in a Kahkwa Boulevard home in April. Erie lawyer Leonard Ambrose said his client, Aladin Jojic, asked for a lawyer after Erie police handcuffed Jojic, drove him to the police station and placed him in a holding cell after the shooting of Jojic's friend Abram Sorek, 23. Ambrose said no lawyer was provided to Jojic, 23. Instead, Jojic was taken to an interview room where he waived his right to an attorney and gave a "statement against his penal interest," according to Ambrose.

  • Investigators probe cause of fire that gutted east Erie house

    Erie fire inspectors and the Erie Bureau of Police are investigating the cause of a fire that gutted a house on Erie's east side on Oct. 29. The fire at 4208 Fargo St. was reported at 2:08 p.m. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and fire coming out of the one-story white house. There were initial reports that someone might be trapped in the house.
