    Colton police searching for stolen furniture found the furnishings and a stolen car Wednesday while serving a search warrant in Highland, authorities said. About 8:30 a.m. officers converged on a home in the 7000 block of Tiara Avenue, detaining Ron Gardner, 50, of Highland as they perused the residence. The investigation had begun Dec. 27 when employees at Ashley Furniture, 855 Ashley Way, told Colton police someone fraudulently obtained several pieces of furniture worth about $13,000, according to a Colton police statement.

Alfred Gutierrez, 59, and son of owner Siquio Gutierrez, hugged George and gave her one of the restaurant's menus, making her burst into tears and thank him over and over again. Siquio, 82, entered the restaurant business in 1953 with El Crescendo, a restaurant with Latin music, but then moved to Colton on Mount Vernon Avenue across from the Department of Motor Vehicles office. "I'm really sad that I have to leave," Siquio said.

    VICTORVILLE >> An apartment fire early Saturday morning left nine adults and seven children out in the 32 degree weather and displaced from their home. The fire started on the patio of the second story apartment, according to Tracey Martinez, spokeswoman for the fire department. All were from the San Bernardino County Fire Department except one engine from Apple Valley. Three apartments incurred smoke and water damage. Officials estimate structural and content damage at $250,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

    COLTON -- Police sought the public's help Friday in providing information regarding the death of a newborn baby in Colton. According to the Colton Police Department, officers received a call around 11:36 a.m. regarding an infant that was wrapped in a blanket near a trash bin located in the 900 block of North 7th Street. A preliminary investigation revealed that the infant was left at the location between the hours of 11:30 p.m. Thursday and 11:30 a.m. this morning. Anyone with information is urged to call detectives at 370-5021.
