    LOS ANGELES -- The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for a portion of Los Angeles County where several intersections appear to be flooded. The warning for South Central Los Angeles County is expected to remain in effect until 6:45 p.m. Tuesday and warns of present or imminent flooding. The impacted areas include but aren't limited to Torrance, West Carson and Compton. Residents and motorists were urged to not drive into areas where the depth of standing water appears great.

    Both the Liberal Arts Campus on Carson Street and the Pacific Coast Campus on Pacific Coast Highway are home to what advocates say are colonies of cats in need of protection. Administrators say the felines are feral and need to be safely moved because of health concerns. The memo, citing reported concerns from faculty and staff, said food and feeders on the campuses would be removed by staff the next day. "Please know that during this transition period, the District will continue to manage the shelter and feeding of the cats," the memo said.

    Sierra Madre Avenue was closed near Yucca Ridge Road and Glendora city officials posted photos of mud flows on Rainbow Drive, Glendora Avenue and Hicrest Road. Because of current rainfall, residents are warned to stay away from beaches and not swim in the ocean near discharging storm drains, creeks, and rivers. This advisory will be in effect until at least Monday. More rain is forecasted for Monday, said John Dumas, meteorologist with the National Weather Service. A slow moving storm is moving south from the Pacific Northwest.

    His replacement, former Carson City Councilman Mike Gipson, was sworn in Dec. 1. Turnout on Tuesday was just above 6 percent. He was required to live in Inglewood, but instead resided in neighboring, upper-middle-class Baldwin Hills. Hall will be formally sworn in Jan. 5 when the Legislature reconvenes and will have a community swearing-in event next year in the district.
